If you are spending time in Nelson or Kaiteriteri area, you’ll want to explore the Nelson Tasman wine region. There are 15 vineyards you can enjoy, from well-established brand to smaller family-owned vineyards that you get to spend time on the property, learn about the wines and taste them of course. It’s the perfect activity for a cloudy day or if you’ve spent enough time at the beach, this is a nice alternative. The backdrops are stunning, and it guarantees a good time. We started with Neudorf Vineyards, we tried the rose and the pinot noir and ordered a small cheese plate for two. It has a beautiful patio, both covered and open areas overlooking the vines.

Then we moved to Flaxmore Vineyards, this is one of New Zealand’s newest wine labels. The tasting includes 4-5 wines free of charge, but they hope you buy a bottle if you enjoyed their wines. After the tasting, you can explore the vineyard with beautiful views across the Moutere Valley to the Kahurangi Ranges. It’s a small property but so quaint. They also sell some of their grapes to neighbor Neudorf Vineyards. No food available.

To wrap a day of Nelson Tasman wine region exploration, we went to Moutere Hills Vineyard. You can get a charcuterie platter or a full lunch or dinner. Coffee is also available, which came in handy when we were on stop 3 and needed a little pick me up. The outdoor space is fantastic and it if rains, they have a nice, covered area surrounded with glass windows so you can still see the property even when the clouds come down.
