What to Wear to a Vineyard in Provence

When I first saw this dress, I knew exactly I wanted to wear it on our trip to the South of France. I’m very specific when I buy new clothes, which is not as often as you would think. I invest in quality pieces that I know will fit me and I would cherish for many years to come, and this dress was one of those. The crisp cotton feels great on you, or shall I say, you can’t even tell you are wearing a maxi dress as it’s so light and early summer in the South of France can get chilly at in the early mornings and evenings or on a cloudy day.

The liberty fabrics floral is from 1984, which is the year I was born so naturally we were a match made in heaven. The scoop neckline and fitted bodice are everything I always look for in a dress. The elastic on the waist and puffed sleeves leave room to go up a size as you age so I was convinced from all angles, this was a good investment. I also got it during the Mother’s Day sale, so I got a discount on it. Always look for those, especially around the holidays.

Saks also carries the brand, and we know they do a lot of sales so it’s good to keep in mind when certain pieces are a little over your budget, if you are patient, you can eventually get to them. I wore sandals throughout our trip, very classic and chic. Needless to say, a timeless floral maxi dress such as this beauty from Doen is the perfect outfit to wear to a vineyard in Provence, you can see it on the flesh here. Now, let’s talk about the Vineyards, there are many vineyards in the South of France, small, big, the ones you can do tastings outside and the ones you do them in the cellar.

Personally, I like the ones you can do tastings outside, it adds charm to it, to be able to drink a glass of rose or two or two while overlooking the vineyard or a beautiful property is just priceless. When it came to booking our main vineyard in Provence, it was pretty simple as I had Domaine de Fontenille on the top of the list. The property is breathtaking, pictures just don’t do it justice. It’s located at Route de Roquefraiche, 84360 Lauris, about 40 min drive north from Aix-en-Provence.

We woke up and head there. We made the reservation one month prior and the staff was really nice. We were debating whether to do a tasting and follow it by a private picnic or have lunch at La Cuisine D’Amélie, which we ended up doing as we wanted sit down for a proper lunch at their beautiful terrace. We did our own tasting as we had their roses pouring from beautiful magnum bottles and the entire experience was perfect to continue to celebrate our anniversary. After we ordered, we walked around a little bit and took these photos. After lunch we walked through the vines to digest and take it all in. can’t wait to go back very soon.
