There isn’t a dress code necessarily when it comes to what to wear to a vineyard, but I always tend to stick to light pieces specially when it comes to summer outings. Recently, we were in Medoc wine region, and I wore light midi dresses, linen shorts, linen oversized shirts, matching crop sets such as this one from Farm Rio as I wanted to look polished, summery but be able to breath. Some people go a little more casual, so it depends if you’re just going to tastings and go about your day. We did a mix, this day, we did a tour of the wine cellars, in which I would recommend taking a light sweater as they can get chilly.
Most of our time in Bordeaux region in August was pleasant French summer, high 70s and low 80s in the day and 60s in the evenings. Some tastings are more elegant than others so I would leave the beach flip flops at home and opt for casual yet chic sandals and sneakers or loafers for the men. Other days, we had lunch at restaurants after the tastings so naturally we wanted to dress appropriately, even if going to the beach later (pool and beach outfit here), you can always chance. It’s always better to overdressed than overdressed in my book.
So here’s the breakdown if you are taking a tour at vineyards this summer. I suggest to pack the following:
Midi and maxi dresses with a light jacket or shawl for the cooler moments in the day.
Wear sandals and mules, sneakers for a. day of walking around too. definitely pack linen pieces, oversized shirts, linen shorts, a vest and linen trousers are great for travel day and then jump right into seeing the town, linen dresses and a few matching sets that you can always wear for a fun dinner our or lunch followed by a tasting in town.
