As we move closer to spring, weather in Madrid is usually a light winter jacket and blazer season. However, since it is spring, rain may pop in here and there. It’s never pouring rain but some drizzle here and there so an umbrella, and a rain jacket, windbreaker or puffer jacket is always good. I usually travel with a puffer jacket with a hoodie during winter as it’s cozy to carry on plane and then it’s light to throw on early mornings and evenings if you need it. To give you a quick example, last year, there was no rain this month but yesterday, March 1, it rained but wasn’t bad and if you didn’t have an umbrella, you wouldn’t have been soaked but more comfortable if you had one.

Then today, it was warmer, and I wore this white linen blazer to brunch and was not cold nor felt the need to bring an additional layer, not even socks. However, for dinner time, I do add socks and a lighter winter jacket on top. It just varies. If you’re planning a trip to Madrid in March, I suggest layers, sweaters, comfortable shoes, and light jackets. There will be some days that you’ll be able to wear a skirt and just a sweater but those are more daytime outfits but mostly, stick to layers and you’ll be good to go. For shoes, I wear sneakers, ballet flats and loafers with or without socks, depending on the day.
