What to Wear for a Day of Wine Tasting in Château Smith Haut Lafitte: A little white dress is the perfect companion for your summer travels. I always carry one with me. This one was perfect for French wine country as some days were cooler than others. This particular day, we went south of Bordeaux for a tasting, and it was extremely hot for the region, so I wanted to wear something summery, light but bot wear shorts as I wanted to go get a bite later in the afternoon, so this dress was a multitasker just like yours truly. A little white dress is clean, classy and will always make you feel polished and put together without much effort.

What to Wear in Bordeaux in June, July and August: First off, keep it casual and comfortable. Bordeaux is a walking city and if you’re planning to leisurely walk, flats, sandals and sneakers are the way to do. Lightweight dresses, a dressy vest, linen pants, mini, midi and maxi dresses as well as matching sets work very well. The city is beautiful, I like it better than Marseille. I’m a good packer so I wore this easy vest with linen pants on the flight so I could simply drop off bags at the hotel and hit the town. You can see locals wearing linen and light fabrics throughout the city.

What to Wear in Margaux, Pauillac: I wore a super light midi dress for a day of wine tasting, carrelets hoping and al fresco dining. Now, let’s go back to discuss the main purpose of our trip. Seeing the chateaus, absorbing history and sipping wine. Naturally, we tasted many Bordeaux wines as we were in the Bordeaux region. Keep in mind that most chateaus do offer some white wines and some even have rose wines, which for me was a nice surprise as I liked to have a glass of rose at lunch to break out all the reds from the tastings.

What to Wear to Saint-Emilion, Bordeaux: Having been in Provence earlier in the summer and sipping through the region while admiring the beautiful mountains, I have to say that I was very happy with Saint-Émilion’s terrain. It’s flat but the vineyards are everywhere you look. Middle of August you can expect sunny and over casted days which are perfect for walking around the estates and jumping in the pool. More about where we stayed next. Whenever I go to France, I always pack midi and maxi dresses, and a white poplin dress was the way to go for an afternoon filled of chateau hopping. We went to the following chateaus while we were in Saint-Émilion.

What to Wear in Medoc, Bordeaux: There isn’t a dress code necessarily when it comes to what to wear to a vineyard, but I always tend to stick to light pieces specially when it comes to summer outings. Recently, we were in Medoc wine region, and I wore light midi dresses, linen shorts, linen oversized shirts, matching crop sets such as this one from Farm Rio as I wanted to look polished, summery but be able to breath. Some people go a little more casual, so it depends if you’re just going to tastings and go about your day. We did a mix, this day, we did a tour of the wine cellars, in which I would recommend taking a light sweater as they can get chilly.

What to Wear to a Vineyard in Saint Emilion Bordeaux: Keep it casual, avoid flip flops or heels, many cobblestone streets so plan your footwear accordingly. We did a lot of leisure walking and chateau hopping so flat sandals were perfect. Linen pieces, midi skirts and breathable tops such as this look was worn twice this trip and I was very comfortable and pleased with my choice. You can always dress up a bit more and add a jacket for the cooler days, but summery pieces look very cute on. Surprisingly I didn’t get any of my white pieces stained from red wine.

What to Wear to Lounge in Saint Emilion: If you have been coming here for a while you know this Solid & Striped tunic is a must when it comes to holidays. I have it in many colors. As temperatures continue to rise and summer makes it strongest debut this season, I’ll be wearing my Solid & Striped oxford tunics all season long. From pool days in Sant Emilion while I take a break between wine tastings or beach days at Soulac-sur-mer, I’ll be on this cute yet very comfortable ensemble.

What to Wear for a Day of Biking and Wine Tasting in Saint-Emilion: Bermuda shorts are the vintage piece you’ve seen everywhere across borders and seasons during the last couple of years. Bermuda shorts are dressier than the regular shorts. They are often worn as a semi casual option and the fabric is usually linen and cotton for the warmer months. The hem, cuffed or uncuffed, is also longer than regular short shorts, which make them more appropriate to take them to dinner and to nicer outings. Bermuda shorts should end just above the knee and shorts at mid-thigh. These days, you can find them in every color, fabric and fit.
