DIY Halloween

As October comes to an end, you can’t help but wonder if you will get a costume, wear an old one, or just dress as yourself. Not sure what I am doing this Halloween, perhaps New Orleans as as I have heard it’s always a fun time. As I didn’t want to buy a costume I figure I could do it myself.

If I decide to dress up, this is one of the costumes I would wear: sailor! It was really easy and fun to put together. I found the sailor hat for $5 at Target and I immediately knew what I could wear it with.

The stripe white and black mini dress is from H&M, Sperry boat shoes obviously, what kind of sailor would I be if I didn’t put boat shoes on right?

As it is chilly already in October, I opted to add my navy blue blazer (last seen) from the Gap. It’s always fun and affordable to put costumes together with what you already have. Dig in your closet and I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to pot something together as well. Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Black Stripes

Thin stripes are always a good choice. I love all stripes but thin ones usually seem to look better on. Given this Saturday’s weather, I decided to wear my H&M beige and black stripe dress. It’s one of my favorite casual pieces for fall.  You can wear it with a black scarf to keep you warm at night and add a beige or black trenchcoat if you need extra warmth.

As far as accessories, I’m wearing my gold Michael Kors watch and vintage Forever21 bangles. Gold watches and bangles are very in style. There are so many places to choose from. Michael Kors has great belt shaped gold bangles that I adore. If you want to get a similar style and are on a budget, try Forever21 bangles.

If you’re in New York, definitely try the street vendors on 5th Ave and 17th area, they have great stuff for moderate prices, SoHo has great street vendors as well. If you can spend more, JCrew, Michael Kors, CUSP and Kate Spade are good places to look. Shoes: Steve Madden sandals.

Diner en Blanc

Diner en Blanc was the theme of Wednesday’s events. My friend Tina invited to an evening of feasting, toasting, and celebrating.. all while clad in the finest eburnean clothing we could muster.. who could say not that right? This came straight from Owen’s email, our great host.

I was very impressed that everyone really went all out with the whites. Just in time for Labor Day weekend, I bring you great examples of white outfits you can wear. Take a look.

I decided to wear an off-white chiffon blouse, white shorts and Max Azria wooden heels and that’s the closest I got to a white theme outfit. I had to mix it up a bit, throw my pearl stud earrings, and a long necklace to make the outfit more fun. It worked perfectly. The evening started of with rosemary and cucumber gin and tonics on the roof deck, gin and tonics have never tasted better!

It was a fun group and a lovely summer evening. As we watched the sunset, we headed to Owen and Ed’s place to move on to a fantastic dinner and a fabulous champagne-fueled party to celebrate the summer. One of the highlights of the evening was the sabered champagne act.

Have you heard of it? I’ve only seen it on TV once in the movie “What Happens in Vegas.” Owen did the honors. Great party, great people, great food, great cocktails, all and all a fantastic diner en blanc.
