I’m going to tell you a little bit about how to spend the perfect weekend in Hamburg and see it in all its glory. I’ve only been in Hamburg for a couple of weeks, but I’ve learned that the weather can be temperamental in fall season. Some days you may experience a lot of rain and grey skies but others it feels like a cold summer day, the sun comes out, everyone is out and about, eating outside with blankets and heaters, taking a stroll downtown or in the Stadt Park, which is the Central Park in Hamburg, I’ll get back to this on another post. If you’re a local, you’ve probably already been on a paddleboard, canoe or pedal boat around the canals in Hamburg but as a newcomer or tourist, the canal sightseeing is a must, given the weather cooperates of course. In case you didn’t know, the city of Hamburg seats on the Elbe River between the North and Baltic seas. It is surrounded by rivers, canals, the beautiful Lake Alster in the heart of downtown, it’s famous for its harbor area, but it’s not only the Port of Hamburg and its transportation importance, but its picturesque canals. Hamburg has more canals than Amsterdam and Venice combined and more bridges than any other city in the world.

If you want to experience Hamburg like a true Hamburger, I highly recommend taking a canal tour thorough this maritime charming city. If you go downtown to the Speicherstadt area, you’ll see the old offices that start right at the canal, it was very cool to see. I’m in the Winterhude neighborhood, which is so idyllic and has the most beautiful homes and restaurants so going to the Supper Club to rent a pedalboat or Tretboot in German was the perfect choice. It was only a short walk through the park and a few bridges and I was able to see the lovely canals and the new, old, homes along the way. Some got very creative by adding sand to their patios to mimic a beach area, others have garages on the water for their boats, canoes and pedal boats, it was very cute. The tour around the canals took about 1.5 hours and ended up by enjoying a nice cold glass of rose back at the Supper Club while watching the sunset, listening to music and watching people come and go. It was the most perfect Sunday, and I cannot wait to discover more of this beautiful city.

An manchen Tagen gibt es viel Regen und grauen Himmel, an anderen fühlt es sich an wie ein kalter Sommertag, die Sonne kommt heraus, alle sind unterwegs, essen draußen mit Decken und Heizstrahlern, machen einen Spaziergang in der Innenstadt oder im Stadtpark, das ist der Central Park in Hamburg, darauf komme ich in einem anderen Beitrag zurück. Als Einheimischer sind Sie wahrscheinlich schon auf einem Paddleboard, Kanu oder Tretboot durch die Hamburger Kanäle gefahren, aber als Neuling oder Tourist ist die Kanalbesichtigung ein Muss, wenn das Wetter natürlich mitspielt. Falls Sie es nicht wussten, die Stadt Hamburg liegt an der Elbe zwischen Nord- und Ostsee. Es ist umgeben von Flüssen, Kanälen, der schönen Alster im Herzen der Innenstadt, es ist berühmt für sein Hafengebiet, aber es ist nicht nur der Hamburger Hafen und seine verkehrstechnische Bedeutung, sondern auch seine malerischen Kanäle. Hamburg hat mehr Kanäle als Amsterdam und Venedig zusammen und mehr Brücken als jede andere Stadt der Welt.

Wenn Sie Hamburg wie ein echter Hamburger erleben möchten, empfehle ich eine Grachtenrundfahrt durch diese maritime charmante Stadt. Wenn man in die Innenstadt in die Speicherstadt fährt, sieht man die alten Büros, die direkt am Kanal beginnen, es war sehr cool zu sehen. Ich bin in Winterhude, das so idyllisch ist und die schönsten Häuser und Restaurants hat, also war es die perfekte Wahl, zum Supper Club zu gehen, um ein Tretboot zu mieten. Es war nur ein kurzer Spaziergang durch den Park und ein paar Brücken und ich konnte die schönen Kanäle und die neuen, alten Häuser entlang des Weges sehen. Einige wurden sehr kreativ, indem sie Sand auf ihren Terrassen hinzufügten, um einen Strandbereich nachzuahmen, andere haben Garagen auf dem Wasser für ihre Boote, Kanus und Tretboote, es war sehr süß. Die Tour durch die Kanäle dauerte ungefähr 1,5 Stunden und endete mit einem schönen kalten Glas Rose im Supper Club, während man den Sonnenuntergang beobachtete, Musik hörte und den Leuten beim Kommen und Gehen zusah. Es war der perfekte Sonntag, und ich kann es kaum erwarten, mehr von dieser schönen Stadt zu entdecken.
