Oh my Versailles! If you can make the time to go to Versailles, I highly, highly recommend a day trip to the Palace of Versailles (20 km from Paris), it’s just a 35 min taxi ride from Paris and Ubers/Free Now taxis are very reliable and not expensive. You can enjoy lunch at one of their many restaurants or grab a sandwich and wine and have a picnic in the property. It was everything I thought it would be and more. The architecture, the history, and the desserts from Angelina were top notch.

If you get the regular ticket, you’ll be able to see the palace, which opens at 9 AM, the gardens, park, fountains open at 8 AM and the Trianon estate, which opens at 12 PM. The Trianon estate, known for its Grant Trianon, Petit Trianon, Queen’s Hamlet and all the ornamental gardens began with Louis XIV as an escape from courtly etiquette. Petit Trianon probably sounds familiar from its association to Queen Marie-Antoinette, who didn’t enjoy court life as much and found refuge in this beautiful estate.

Plan to spend 3-5 hours at the property, trust me, time will fly by, between sightseeing, and tasting yummy treats from Angelina. Versailles is a wonderful example of the French architecture and art from the 17th and 18th centuries. You feel royal when walking through the royal hallways, which are adorned with gold, crystals and the breathtaking art, I was mostly fascinated with the ones in the ceilings.

The royal opera, the cathedral, hall of mirrors and royal chapel were just some of my favorites. I have the say that the one I was most looking forward to visiting was the Petit Trianon. After an entire day of seeing it all and walking it all, I rested my tired feet by the water and had a dessert from Angelina.
